Weird Rock Riders!

Tuesday, July 31st, 2012

As we all know, musicians at best can be a pretty weird and wonderful bunch, combine that with unparalleled fame and wealth and you’ve got a recipe for some eccentric and all out weird goings on! One things that has become almost a rivalry within rock bands and artists alike is the hugely essential riders which is basically a big list of random things they want or think they can get away with waking for.

Check out some of the weirdest and wildest gig riders from plenty of big names you’ll recognise. Enjoy.

Guns n Roses‘ Axl Rose – Asked for there to be a Square melon to hand. Maybe he just wanted to actually see one!

Van Halen – famously asked that M&M’s with all the brown ones removed, this was to test to see if the venue had actually read to the bottom of their long list. They also asked that all back-stage celery is trimmed and not peeled.

Motley Crue – to name just a few; a submachine gun, a detailed schedule of local AA meetings and even a 12-foot boa constrictor!

Rolling Stones – these guys were just happy with some shepherd’s pie, a bottle of HP and a snooker table. Not really that rock n roll huh.

Paul McCartney from The Beatles – has asked for there to be 19 leafy 6ft plants and four leafy 4ft plants. Pretty cool I guess creating your very own rainforest.

Foo Fighters – Being adventurous with six Cup O Noodles (vegetable, original beef flavour) pretty normal really, oh yeah and this is ONLY on Wednesdays! Of course!

AC/DC – these guys go all out with three oxygen tanks with three masks and five large ashtrays. Riiiight!

Madonna – she actually once demanded – and got – her hotel room painted in a different colour.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – they went a little softer with a separate meditation room and a selection of aromatherapy candles, as well as having fresh underwear and socks available.

Classic Albums are still outselling New Releases!

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

You heard it right guys!

Sales of “old albums” have overtaken sales of “new albums” over the last six months in the US for the first time ever. Older albums now classified as LP’s that have been out for at least a hear and a half are still outselling new releases by a whopping 2.7 million in the last 6 months according to OC Weekly!

Top classic sellers include Whitney Houston and Gun’s ‘N’ Roses with their greatest hits compilations. Plenty of life in the old dogs huh! Still rocking strong.

So what does this mean?
A few have said that this could be as a result of the falling prices in slightly older records which has introduced more customers into the market who may not have purchased before, really we just like to think that people are just loving the classics as much a we are! Not that we’re biased at all!

Sadly UK albums sales are generally on the decline with an ever-growing amount of music lovers choosing to digitally download instead of a physical purchase. It can’t be just us who loves getting their hands on their very own piece of hardware be it CD or vinyl?!

So what do you think? Why do you think oldies are outselling new releases? Can you explain the decline in overall sales of music?

Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ Crowned ‘UK’s Favourite Number One single’

Monday, July 16th, 2012

You heard it folks!

Last night (15th July) saw the results of the nationwide poll conducted by the Official Charts Company which took place to find out just which number one charting singles over the last 60 years us Brits this is the best of the best!

Hitting the top spot with no real surprise from us the infamous Bohemian Rhapsody from one of the biggest and best bands ever, Queen. Pretty impressive huh?!

The 1975 hit single, which sold over one million copies during its five-week stint at number one, fought off some serious competition from Michael Jackson‘s much loved ‘Billie Jean’, which was narrowly in second place – both fully deserving of the title in our eyes.

Surprisingly high up was Adele’s ‘Someone Like You, which, despite only being released in 2011, came in an impressive third. Oasis were fourth with ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, while The Beatles only managed to snatch up fifth spot with ‘Hey Jude’.

Check out the full top ten results from last nights event:
1. Queen – ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’
2. Michael Jackson – ‘Billie Jean’
3. Adele – ‘Someone Like You’
4. Oasis – ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’
5. The Beatles – ‘Hey Jude’
6. John Lennon – ‘Imagine’
7. Britney Spears – ‘…Baby One More Time’
8. Abba – ‘Dancing Queen’
9. Whitney Houston – ‘I Will Always Love You’
10. Kylie Minogue – ‘Can’t Get You Out Of My Head’

So what do you think? Do you agree with the results or what other songs do you think should have made the top ten spot?
